TMJ/TMD

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ disorder = jaw joint disorder) occurs when one or more aspects of the jaw doesn’t function properly, including the jaw joint itself or muscles supporting it. A lot of factors might contribute to developing this condition including: misaligned teeth, dental crowding, jaw constriction, incorrect jaw position, parafunctional habits like grinding and clenching, sedation under general anesthesia, whiplash injuries.

A thorough TMJ evaluation helps us personalize your treatment plan in attempt to alleviate your jaw joint related symptoms:

-Headaches
-Jaw joint pain
-Tired jaw or pain when chewing
-Facial muscle tension and stiffness
-Limited and/or painful mouth opening
-Jaw joint clicking and/or popping
-Jaw locking
-Grinding, clenching
-Ear ringing, stuffiness

Treatment of jaw related conditions might include but not limited to the use of night and/or day appliances in attempt to stabilize the jaw in a more favourable position and relax tense muscles supporting it.
